Mindfulness is a mental and emotional state. It is the awareness that emerges, when you detach yourself from your thoughts and feelings. When you observe without criticizing the continuous flow of both internal and external stimuli, as they arise.
Mindfulness has to do with specific properties of attention and self-awareness, which you can cultivate and develop through experiential activities and meditation.
Many researchers and mental health experts have introduced mindfulness practices, with exceptional results, in treatment programs implemented for facing a wide range of psychological problems. The process of observing the thoughts and emotions, as well as the conscious awareness of which, enhances the realization that they don’t always reflect reality. For instance, when someone feels scared it doesn’t necessarily mean that the danger is real or immediate. When someone thinks “I’m a failure”, that doesn’t mean it’s true. The non-judgmental observing of the thoughts can lead to the awareness that “they are just thoughts” and they don’t depict the truth.
A mentally healthy individual will benefit greatly from practicing mindfulness:
There are meditation techniques for achieving awareness that can offer you valuable understandings so that you see clearly and get to know yourself and your surroundings better, which will enable you to revise and alter your place in life. These techniques with the right guidance can lead you to experience the abundance that is available to you, to feel grateful, confident and to treasure every moment of your life.
Why is it important to choose the appropriate techniques and to experience all of the above?
Because the goal is not for you to be aware during the practice of the technique and then lack awareness for the rest of the day and the rest of your life.
The aim is that you acquire the transcendental ability to act with awareness.
Nowadays, we are exposed to many external stimuli and changes. Our mind has to constantly assimilate technological advances and discoveries, bad news broadcasted by the media and conflicting opinions of experts or non-experts. It is required of us to be constantly alert and active.
Leading an active and mindful way of living means being aware when you act, when you live your everyday life, as this is the only way to accelerate the changes you desire in your life and find happiness.
