For years Reiki along with other holistic therapies were looked upon with disapproval and even contempt by conventional medicine. The idea that the human body is surrounded by “life force” energy and that by balancing this energy every illness can be cured, was considered as mere nonsense.
Lately, Reiki has started gaining the recognition and respect it deserves within the medical community. Reiki is widely accepted and extensively used in hospitals in the USA and in Great Britain.
It has been noted that Reiki reduces stress patients experience before and after the operation. It speeds up recovery from surgery and helps patients adjust to their medication or it eases the side effects. Dr. Mehmet Oz, cardiothoracic surgeon at Columbia Presbyterian Medical Center in New York, collaborates with a Reiki healer to balance the patients’ energy during operations. Dr Oz reports that out of the 11 patients suffering from heart disease that received this treatment, none experienced postoperative depression, the bypass patients had no postoperative pain and the transplant patients experienced no organ rejection.
Doctors, after seeing Reiki’s effectiveness, are reconsidering their approach towards illness and therapy. Many of them learn how to practice it themselves as it enables them to be more effective. Nancy Eos, emergency room physician and Reiki master, states: “I can’t imagine practicing medicine without Reiki. With Reiki all I have to do is touch a person. Things happen that don’t usually happen. Pain lessens in intensity. Rashes fade. Wheezing gives way to breathing clearly. Angry people begin to joke with me.”
The benefits of Reiki for our well being are numerous and it goes without saying that there is no need to be sick to enjoy them. Reiki boosts your immune system, reduces stress and it supports the body’s self-healing process keeping you healthy and energetic. You can learn Reiki and practice it in your everyday life.
In Serendipity Institute, Reiki energy is an energy field where all our retreats are held. In addition to the Reiki sessions we offer, you also have the opportunity to acquire the Reiki 1st degree (Usui Shiki Ryotto system) and be able to offer to yourself the healing power of Reiki.
